Sling TV debuted at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) as a virtual multichannel video programming distributor (vMVPD)—allowing today’s most popular channels to be viewed through the Sling TV app starting at $20 per month with the flexibility to personalize programming based on different programming genres.

It was the first live multichannel TV streaming service and established an entirely new market of “personalized” live TV. Over the next three years, the space became crowded with competition from DIRECTV NOW, fuboTV, Hulu Live, PlayStation Vue, and YouTube TV – with many new messages, platforms and just a lot of noise.
